William Chavarin

Strategic Advisor
Oakland, California

William Chavarin is an experienced educator, mentor, and workforce development leader with over 25 years of experience supporting student success and building strong education-to-career pathways. Born and raised in West Oakland, he brings a lifelong commitment to community, equity, and transformative leadership.

William serves as a Strategic Advisor to Workforce Development Unit (WDU), offering periodic guidance to support cross-sector partnerships and long-term program development. His insights help inform efforts to connect students, educators, and adult learners with the tools and opportunities they need to thrive, with a focus on strengthening pathways for middle and high school students, adult learners, and aspiring professionals.

William’s career spans classroom teaching, school leadership, and workforce alignment. He has served as a middle and high school principal, classroom teacher, mentor, and curriculum designer. He also served as a Director for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), where he supported statewide school athletics and student development, and has contributed to national education and leadership initiatives through his work with the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). His leadership reflects a deep understanding of how to support learners from the classroom to the workforce, with a strong track record of contributing to programs that improve student engagement, graduation, and long-term career readiness.

He holds a Master of Arts in Education, with a concentration in Administration and Supervision from San Jose State University, as well as an Administrative Services Credential. He also earned a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from California State University, East Bay; a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from California State University, Monterey Bay; and an Associate of Arts in Social Sciences from Laney College.

William’s work is grounded in the belief that every learner—regardless of background—deserves access to high-quality education, mentorship, and the opportunity to build a future filled with purpose and possibility.
